Clonmel Scouts Hall shows how deep retrofit can be delivered in a community building with heritage constraints. TEA helped shape and manage a package that improved comfort, efficiency and usability while respecting the building’s protected status.
The hall had been in poor structural condition and required broad upgrading, including electrical works and building fabric improvements. Because the building is a protected structure, the retrofit also needed careful heritage oversight.
TEA carried out an energy audit, worked within the requirements of a protected building and supported a funding mix that included SEAI, LEADER and Tipperary County Council. Heritage-certified architectural input helped ensure the measures were appropriate to the structure.
The project delivered savings of 39,712 kWh per year, worth about €5,560 annually. More importantly, it transformed the hall into a warm, welcoming and more heavily used space for scouts, guides, parents, visiting groups and the wider community.
The scout den is now a warm and welcoming space for everyone using it.”
